Nure-onna is a mysterious yokai said to appear near rivers, coastlines, and desolate shores. At first glance, she takes the form of a beautiful woman with long, damp hair. But beneath that human appearance lies her true form—a massive serpent waiting in silence.

Unlike violent creatures that strike without warning, Nure-onna relies on stillness and deception. She approaches slowly, her calm demeanor masking a far more dangerous intent.

In many legends, she carries a bundle and asks passersby to hold it for her. Once accepted, the weight becomes impossible to release, trapping the victim in place. Only then does her true nature reveal itself.

In this illustration, Nure-onna rises from the water, her serpentine body coiling beneath her while gentle ripples and movement surround her form. The composition emphasizes both elegance and tension, capturing the moment before danger fully reveals itself.

Inspired by traditional Japanese tattoo design and Ukiyo-e composition, the flowing lines and open spaces allow for both detailed coloring and expressive freedom.

濡女 ― 水辺に潜む蛇の妖怪

水辺に現れる静かな存在——美しく、そして逃れられない。

濡女は、川辺や海岸、人気のない水辺に現れるとされる妖怪です。長く濡れた髪を持つ美しい女性の姿をしていますが、その正体は巨大な蛇の体を持つ存在です。

激しく襲いかかる妖怪とは異なり、濡女は静けさと欺きによって人を捕らえます。その穏やかな佇まいの裏には、冷静で逃げ場のない捕食者としての本質が隠されています。

多くの伝承では、彼女は赤子のような包みを差し出し、持ってほしいと頼みます。一度受け取ると、その重さは増し続け、手放すことができなくなります。そしてその瞬間、逃げ場は失われます。

本作品では、水面から現れる濡女の姿を描いています。蛇の体が静かに絡み合い、水の揺らぎが周囲に広がることで、美しさと緊張感が同時に表現されています。

和彫りや浮世絵の影響を受けた流れる線は、繊細な塗りから大胆な表現まで楽しめる構成となっています。

濡女は追いかける存在ではなく、待ち続ける存在です。
