牛鬼（うしおに）は、日本の伝承に登場する恐ろしい妖怪で、牛と鬼が融合したような異形の姿をしています。主に海岸や断崖に現れるとされ、その圧倒的な力で人々を襲う存在として語られてきました。
その力は凶暴で、知性よりも本能に支配された存在とされることが多く、出会った者は逃れることができないと言われています。人を惑わす妖怪とは異なり、純粋な破壊と捕食の象徴ともいえる存在です。
