Some disasters are said to come from deep beneath the earth.

Namazu is a giant catfish yokai believed to dwell beneath the ground in Japanese folklore. When it thrashes and moves, the earth shakes, causing devastating earthquakes that can destroy entire cities in an instant.

According to legend, the deity Kashima restrains Namazu with a sacred stone, preventing it from moving. But when that control weakens, even for a moment, the ground trembles and chaos spreads across the land.

Unlike creatures that attack directly, Namazu represents a different kind of fear—the unseen force beneath our feet. Its presence cannot be escaped, only endured.

In this illustration, the colossal catfish bursts from the earth, tearing through the landscape. Buildings collapse, the ground fractures, and traditional structures are shattered as the creature rises.

The composition captures the moment of destruction, with dynamic cracks and debris spreading outward. Lightning and turbulent skies enhance the sense of sudden, uncontrollable catastrophe.

鯰（なまず） ― 地震を引き起こす巨大妖怪

災いは、地の底から訪れる。

ナマズは日本の伝承に登場する巨大な妖怪で、地中に潜み、その激しい動きによって地震を引き起こすと信じられてきました。そのひと振りは大地を揺るがし、街や人々の暮らしを一瞬で崩壊させる力を持っています。

古くから、ナマズは鹿島神によって要石で押さえつけられているとされます。しかし、その封印が緩んだ瞬間、大地は震え、制御不能の混乱が広がると語られています。

直接襲いかかる怪物とは異なり、ナマズがもたらす恐怖は「見えない力」です。足元の下に潜む存在は、逃げることも避けることもできません。

本作品では、巨大なナマズが地面を突き破り、地上へと現れる瞬間が描かれています。大地は裂け、建物は崩れ、神社や街並みが破壊される様子が迫力ある構図で表現されています。

ひび割れた地面や飛び散る瓦礫、荒れ狂う空は、突発的な災害の恐ろしさを強調しています。

ナマズの大きな体躯や長いヒゲは強い存在感を放ちつつ、周囲の構造物や地形には塗りやすい余白も確保されています。
