The Fox Goddess of Prosperity

Inari is one of the most widely worshipped deities in Japan, revered as a guardian of prosperity, harvest, and success. Shrines dedicated to Inari can be found throughout the country, often recognized by long pathways of torii gates that create a sacred passage leading into the spiritual world.

In many traditions, Inari is closely connected with fox spirits known as kitsune. These mystical foxes are believed to act as divine messengers, carrying the will of the deity and protecting the sacred spaces of the shrine. Because of this connection, statues of foxes are commonly placed at the entrances of Inari shrines across Japan.
