A Quiet Page After Two Loud Ones

I like the change of pace. Not every neo-pop page needs to shout. Here the black sky and the pale crescent give the figure room to feel distant, watchful, and a little difficult to approach.

A Note on Tsukuyomi

Tsukuyomi is the moon deity of Japanese myth and is often described as male in traditional accounts. This book deliberately reimagines the figure as a modern goddess, keeping the lunar domain while changing the presentation.

The old stories leave Tsukuyomi more elusive than Amaterasu or Susanoo. That lack of a fixed, crowded visual vocabulary was useful: the design could lean into silence, phases, reflection, and night.

The Crescent Does Most of the Work

The oversized crescent frames the body and creates a clean light shape against black. Smaller moons repeat along the upper arc, while the drips and little skull-like street marks keep the page from becoming too delicate.

Because the silhouette is long and simple, this is a good page for testing a limited palette rather than a complicated blend.

Coloring in Cool Light

My first choices would be violet, deep blue, and a narrow line of cyan. I would keep the largest crescent nearly white, perhaps with a pale lavender shadow along one edge.

The coat can carry the darkest color. If the hair receives two cool hues instead of one, those same hues can return in the moon charms near the hem.

Let the Black Stay Black

The open black field is not empty space waiting to be fixed. It is the night. Preserving it makes every white star and purple accent look more deliberate.
