The Mountain Crone of Hidden Hunger

Yama-uba is a mysterious figure said to dwell deep within remote mountain regions, often appearing as a lonely old woman. At first glance, she may seem harmless, even kind, offering shelter to lost travelers. Yet behind this fragile appearance lies a far more dangerous and unsettling presence.

In this illustration, Yama-uba is depicted as an overwhelming, towering figure within the mountain landscape. Her long, tangled hair flows wildly, almost merging with the surrounding environment, while her thin, elongated limbs create an unnatural and unsettling silhouette.

At the center of the composition, a large pot burns with an intense flame, suggesting a ritual or a sinister purpose. 山姥は、山奥に住むとされる謎めいた存在で、 一見するとただの老女のように見えることもあります。 迷った旅人に宿を貸すなど、優しさを見せることもありますが、 その裏には恐ろしい本性が隠されていると伝えられています。

このイラストでは、山姥は人間とは比べ物にならないほど巨大な姿で描かれ、 山中に異様な存在感を放っています。 乱れた長い髪は周囲の自然と一体化するように広がり、 細く伸びた手足が不自然なシルエットを生み出しています。
