The Snow Woman Leaving

In the silence of falling snow, she turns away.

Yuki-onna, the Snow Woman, is a spirit of winter—beautiful, distant, and untouchable. She appears in blizzards, her presence as quiet and cold as the night itself. In one well-known legend, she spares a young man’s life under a single condition: he must never speak of their encounter.

Years pass. The man builds a life, unaware that the woman beside him is the very spirit he once met. But silence is fragile. When the promise is broken, the truth reveals itself—and with it, the end of what could never truly remain.

This illustration captures the moment of departure. There is no anger, no violence—only quiet acceptance. Her figure dissolves into the snow, her form carried away by the wind, leaving behind nothing but memory.

雪女は、吹雪の夜に現れるとされる存在。美しくも冷たく、どこか人の世界とは距離を置いた、冬そのもののような妖です。ある伝承では、彼女は一人の男の命を救う代わりに、出会いを決して口外しないという約束を交わします。

時は流れ、その男は家庭を築きます。しかし、共に暮らす女性こそが、かつて出会った雪女であるとは気づかないまま。やがてその約束は破られ、隠されていた真実が露わになります。
