Mountain Witch

Not every danger announces itself. Some wait quietly, offering warmth to those who wander too far.

Yamauba is a mysterious mountain spirit, often appearing as a beautiful woman living alone in a remote hut. Her presence feels calm, almost comforting—like a safe place in the cold wilderness.

A fire burns gently. A quiet voice welcomes you inside. Nothing seems out of place.

And yet, something is not right.

In the shadows, barely visible, lie the remains of those who came before. Bones, hidden just out of sight.

Her smile lingers a moment too long. Her gaze does not waver. The silence stretches further than it should.

The deeper you look, the more the unease grows.

Yamauba does not chase. She does not call out.

She simply waits— for someone to step closer.

山姥（やまうば）

危険は、必ずしも姿を現すわけではありません。 時にそれは、静かに待ち、 迷い込んだ者に温もりを差し出します。

山姥は、山奥の小屋にひとりで暮らす美しい女性として現れることがあります。 その佇まいは穏やかで、 厳しい山の中で出会うにはあまりにも安心できる存在に見えます。

火は静かに燃え、 優しい声が中へと誘います。 一見、何もおかしなところはありません。

しかし、どこか違和感が残ります。

ふと視線を落とした先、 影の中には、わずかに骨が見え隠れしています。 かつてここを訪れた者たちの痕跡が。

彼女の微笑みは、ほんの少し長く続き、 視線は揺らぐことなくこちらを捉えています。 静寂は、どこか不自然に伸びていきます。

見れば見るほど、その違和感は大きくなっていきます。

山姥は追いかけてきません。 呼びかけることもありません。

ただ静かに、 誰かが近づいてくるのを待っているだけです。
